Abstract
The Lattice Fluid theory of polymer solutions, as reformulated recently, is now extended to polydisperse polymer-solvent systems. Analytical expressions are given for all basic thermodynamic quantities of the mixture as well as for the spinodals and the critical points. The theory is tested against experimental data on volumes of mixing, Flory-Huggins χ interaction parameters, spinodal curves and critical points for a number of mixtures of well characterized polydisperse polystyrene samples with cyclohexane. Comparison has also been made with experimental critical behavior of polydisperse polymer-monodisperse polymer mixtures. The agreement between theory and experiment is satisfactory. Advantages and limitations of the theory are discussed.
