Does maternal COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy have a positive impact on neonatal outcomes?

In the comment1 by El-Qushayri for which we are grateful, concluded that COVID-19 vaccination is not associated with reduced SGA or Low Apgar. In the present letter, we aim to provide an accurate reply to their comments, which we read with the utmost attention.

In our previous publication,2 we have acknowledged that the inclusion of the study by Magnus (2022)3 demonstrates satisfactory quality. Therefore, instead of excluding this study, we have incorporated it as it provides valuable insights into SGA and Low Apgar score outcomes. In addition, subgroup analysis in our previous publication2 also showed that protective effect of vaccination during pregnancy was also related to the timing of vaccination of COVID-19. Consequently, to establish robust evidence regarding the impact of COVID-19 vaccination on neonatal outcomes such as SGA, low Apgar score, as well as preterm birth, it is essential to consider different vaccine doses, types, and specific trimesters for administration. We have already listed this limitation in previous publication.2 Just as El-Qushayri mentioned in his comment1 as well as our previous publication,2 further studies such as randomized controlled trials (RCT) are still needed to confirm the potential beneficial effects of COVID-19 vaccines on neonatal outcomes.
